Account information: Your name and email address. Your password is securely hashed and never stored in plain text.
Journal content: Your journal entries, the prompts you responded to, entry dates, and derived progress data such as completed days and streak summaries.
Leaderboard and league data: A public leaderboard name (separate from your private account name), your timezone, and weekly aggregate stats such as points, active days, longest run, and a capped character total. Your journal text and prompts are never shown to other users.
Diagnostics and observability data: Crash reports, error logs, performance metrics, app launch events, route timing, app version, operating system, device model, and related technical details to keep the app working. Error reports may include your account ID, IP address, and device information to help diagnose issues.
Device and notification data: Theme preference is stored on your device only. If you allow push notifications, we store your notification preferences (including reminder pace and preferred reminder time), timezone, device installation ID, platform, Expo push token, and delivery logs so we can deliver reminders, weekly recaps, and app updates.
Support and feedback: If you contact support or submit in-app feedback, we collect the message and any contact details you choose to provide.
What we don't collect: We do not ask for or access precise location, advertising IDs, contacts, photos, HealthKit data, browsing history, or payment information. Your journal is a free-form text field, so you should avoid writing information you do not want stored in the app.
We do not sell your data. We do not use your journal content for advertising, marketing, analytics, or AI training. The app is free and does not monetize your data.
Your data is stored on third-party infrastructure. As the operator of this app, we have administrative access to the database and can view stored data when necessary for support or troubleshooting. Journal content is not end-to-end encrypted.
Other users in your weekly league cohort can see your public leaderboard name and aggregate stats (points, active days, longest run, capped character total, league tier, and rank). They cannot see your account name, email, or journal content.
We use third-party service providers for authentication, database hosting, email delivery, error monitoring, observability, push notification delivery, app distribution, and app updates. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms and security practices. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest by our providers. Data is primarily processed in the United States and may also be processed in other regions where our providers operate.
We collect diagnostic events and performance measurements to debug crashes, hangs, slow screens, and failed actions. We do not use mobile session replay or screen recordings for debugging.
Your data is kept as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Settings. Deletion starts immediately, signs you out, and is irreversible, but the full server-side deletion workflow may take some time to finish.
You can also delete individual entries or all entries for a specific date.
We may delete accounts that have been inactive for more than 12 months. We will attempt to notify you by email before doing so.
League and leaderboard history is retained for up to 8 weeks. Notification delivery logs are retained for up to 60 days. Stale device notification subscriptions may be retained for up to 90 days. Error and diagnostic data is retained for up to 90 days regardless of account deletion.
The app can send remote push notifications for journaling reminders, optional weekly recaps, and optional app updates. Reminder frequency can be once daily or more frequent nudges. They are sent through Expo, Apple, and Google push services. You can turn them off in Settings or in your device settings.
You must be at least 13 years old (16 in the EU) to use this app.
You can access, edit, and delete your journal entries directly in the app. To request a data export, email support@one-line-journal.com. If you are in the EU, you have additional rights under the GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, portability). We do not sell personal information (CCPA).
We may update this policy. When we do, we'll update the effective date and ask you to review it in the app.
